I’m writing as your constituent to ask that you support renewed federal funding for the Trans Canada Trail in this upcoming budget.
The Trail is one of Canada’s most iconic, unifying and widely used public assets, connecting communities across the country and supporting health, local economies, and environmental resilience. With more than 30,000 kilometres of trail and more than 200 million visits annually, it has become essential infrastructure that Canadians rely on every day.
However, the current federal funding agreement is set to expire in 2027. Without renewed investment, parts of the Trail risk deterioration due to climate impacts, aging infrastructure, and rising maintenance costs, leading to reduced access and higher long-term repair costs.
I support the recommendation for the Government of Canada to commit $55 million over five years to sustain and strengthen the Trail. This is a modest investment that will protect decades of prior funding, unlock additional private and community investment, and continue delivering strong economic, environmental, and health benefits to Canadians.
The Trail is not just recreational, it supports local businesses, connects communities, and provides free, accessible space for people to stay active and connected to nature.
I urge you to advocate for this funding as part of Budget 2026.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue. I would appreciate knowing your position.
